What Is Clipping? A Plain-Language Explainer

, 4 min read

If you have a podcast, a show, live streams or simply a lot of long videos that stop working the day after you publish them, clipping is a way to turn that material into short vertical videos and get it in front of people on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. This article explains in plain language what clipping is, how a clipping campaign works, what it costs and who it is for.

Clipping in short

Clipping means turning long-form content into short vertical videos. The long content can be a podcast, a stream, an interview, a show, a webinar or an event recording. A network of clippers cuts it into clips optimised for short-form, and they go out on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts to earn organic views without any paid boost.

How a clipping campaign works

In the usual setup, a company hires an editor, the editor cuts the videos, and they get posted on the company's account. A clipping campaign works differently.

  • A network of clippers, not one editor. Clips are made by many independent clippers. They choose which fragment to cut and how to present it.
  • Clips go out on the clippers' own accounts. Not on the brand's page, but across many different accounts. That is why the content reaches people who have never heard of the brand.
  • You pay for views, not for videos. The brand pays per thousand approved views (CPM). A clip nobody watches costs nothing.
  • The budget is capped. Every campaign has a budget ceiling, so it cannot overspend. When the budget is reached, the campaign stops.

Clippers have a reason to make clips that actually work, because their pay depends on views. That is the main reason campaigns reach a volume one person could never get to.

What happens to bad clips

The question we hear most often: if strangers make the clips, how can a brand be sure about the result?

The answer is moderation. At OFFSCRIPT, every submitted clip is reviewed by a person, not an algorithm, and checked against the brand's rules. The rules are agreed in the brief before the campaign starts: what is banned, what tone of voice is expected, what can and cannot be used. A clip that breaks the rules is rejected, and the brand does not pay for its views.

In practice this means clippers quickly learn what gets approved and adjust. The number of rejected clips is usually noticeable, but that filter is exactly what protects the brand.

The process from start to finish

  • Brief. Together with the brand we agree on the material, the target audience, the tone, banned content and the budget.
  • Launch. The campaign goes out to the clipper network, usually within a week of the brief.
  • First clips. The first clips and views appear within the first days.
  • Moderation. Every clip is checked and either approved or rejected.
  • Payment. The brand pays only for approved views.

The length of the campaign is adjusted to the amount of material and the goals.

What it costs

Prices start from €1 per 1,000 views. Because you pay for the result rather than the work, there is no fixed fee per clip or per hour. We have written separately about how a campaign budget comes together and what to compare it with: what a clipping campaign costs and clipping vs Meta ads.

What the results look like

One example from our own work. In October 2026, one OFFSCRIPT campaign reached 2.36 million views in two weeks. Clippers submitted 426 clips, of which 347 were approved. The clips collected 77.1K likes, 10.5K shares and 1.19K comments. By day two, views had already passed 100,000.

Two numbers here matter more than the rest. The first is 347 out of 426: almost a fifth of the clips were not approved, and nobody paid for them. The second is 100,000 views on day two: clipping does not deliver after a month, it starts working right away.

Who clipping is for

  • Brands that need volume on TikTok and Reels but have no in-house content team.
  • Podcasters and creators with hours of recordings that nobody watches after publication. Clipping gives that material a second life.
  • International brands entering the Baltics that need to show up for a local audience quickly. OFFSCRIPT works in Latvian and English, and the clipper network is not limited to Latvia.

Clipping is not for you if there is no long content to cut from. If all you have is product photos and a logo, you need to record something first.

FAQ

Are the clips also posted on the brand's account?

In a clipping campaign, clippers post the clips on their own themed accounts, which we define in the brief. That is the whole point: the content goes out through many channels at once.

How fast do the first results show up?

A campaign usually launches within a week of the brief, and the first clips and views appear within the first days.

What happens if a clip breaks the brand's rules?

It gets rejected in moderation, and the brand does not pay for its views. The rules are agreed in the brief before the campaign, so both sides know what is acceptable.
